Tuesday, July 25th, 2023, Lagos, Nigeria: A collaboration between International Youth Foundation (IYF) and Paradigm Initiative funded by Google.org which aims to equip 300 young Nigerians with the necessary skills to secure job opportunities in the Information and Technology (IT) sector has kicked off.
The project, which targets youth between the ages of 18-30, provides training in five Google certificates, namely, IT Support, UX Design, Project Management, Digital Marketing & E-Commerce, and Data Analytics, as well as wrap-around services, including soft skills, is aimed at enhancing their employability and career prospects.
Besides technical training and soft skills, participants will benefit from mentorship sessions.
Speaking on the program, the project lead at Paradigm Initiative, Mr. Ihueze Nwobilor said: “ In today’s rapidly evolving world, the IT sector plays a crucial role in enabling efficient management and exchange of information across various industries. Given this development, organisations are investing more in IT to keep up with the growing demands to modernise operations. It is therefore important to have up-to-date skills to navigate the dynamic IT landscape, more so for aspiring IT professionals.”
Aspiring professionals must possess an interest in the digital environment, IT sector, or Project Management.
The partnership aims at providing job placement support to learners who successfully complete the training and obtain Google Career Certificates in their chosen field of study. Through this collaboration, the organisations will bridge the digital skills gap in Nigeria while playing an important role in empowering young Nigerians to thrive in the IT sector and equipping them with in-demand skills.
