#PINternetFreedom Chat With Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata Jnr (@CFAgbata)

Topic: The Economic gains of Internet Freedom

There are ongoing conversations around the World over several emerging threat to an Open and Free Internet. Security concerns and sometimes dictatorial tendencies on the part of Government of Nigeria have encouraged attempts to limit freedom enjoy online by Nigerians through policies such as NCC’s Draft Lawful Interception of Communications Regulations and investment in Communications Surveillance equipment as captured in the Nigeria 2013 and 2014 budgets. The Government needs to know that freedom encourages greater usage of the Internet, and the real value of the digital economy comes from increased usage of the Internet and related technologies. When people can access the content they want on the Internet without fear of being monitored, they use it more, and greater use of the Internet is a very important driver of growth. Government must make policies and enact laws that promotes Internet Freedom and shy away from repressive policies.
