Paradigm Initiative will host its annual workshop on Digital Rights dubbed ‘Digital Rights Academy’ from September 22 to 23, 2021 in Dakar, Senegal.
The Digital Rights Academy aims to raise awareness and increase knowledge about digital rights and internet policy as well as strengthen the capacity of stakeholders to promote and defend human rights respecting legislation in Senegal that contribute to advancing Internet rights in Africa.
The objectives of the Academy are to:
- Raise awareness of the state of Internet freedoms at national and regional levels, while including a global overview
- Provide a platform to new entrants for discussion, information sharing and networking on digital rights and the Internet ecosystem
- Evaluate the mechanisms available for the protection of rights on the Internet and other fundamental rights at all levels
The workshop will target key internet ecosystem players from civil society organizations, the media, policy makers and academia. Topics of discussion will include, among others, Digital Rights 101, Freedom of Speech, State of Internet Freedoms, Digital Security Masterclass, and Building Internet Freedom Advocacy Programs.
We invite you to participate in the Senegal Digital Rights Academy by completing the application form. The two-day workshop is open to a limited number of participants who live and work in Senegal. Candidate selection will be based on best practice with an emphasis on the likelihood that the workshop will be useful for your current work.
Workshop materials, meals and course resources will be provided during the duration of the training. Travel support is also available, however, travel is very limited and will be very competitive. Applications close on September 8, 2021.
