About Ayeta Hackathon
Ayeta is a digital security toolkit developed to address the growing need to safeguard digital rights. This toolkit provides information and resources for digital rights and security.
We're excited to announce our upcoming Website Redesign Hackathon, aimed at revitalizing our digital platform with fresh, innovative ideas. We're looking for talented designers and developers who can reimagine the Ayeta website interface, user experience, and overall aesthetic to boost engagement and functionality.
These are the objectives:
- Innovate Website Design: Encourage creative thinking and innovation in redesigning our website to improve its visual appeal and user interface.
- Enhance User Engagement: Develop features and interactions that significantly boost user engagement and retention on our digital platform.
- Improve User Experience: Focus on creating a seamless and intuitive user experience that simplifies navigation and interaction for all users and for all screen types.
- Incorporate Advanced Features: Integrate advanced features such as game simulations and interactive elements to enrich the user experience.
- Promote Toolkit Utilization: Design an engaging experience that promotes the use and download of our toolkit, making it a central part of the new web app.
- Responsiveness: Create responsive designs covering mobile, tablet, and laptop screens.

Challenge
Participants will tackle the following challenges::
- Transform the Webpage into a Web App: Convert our existing webpage into a dynamic web application that enhances user interaction and engagement.
- Integrate Toolkit Details: Seamlessly incorporate comprehensive details from our toolkit into the new web app, ensuring users have easy access to valuable resources.
- Add Game Simulations and New Games: Enhance the web app by adding simulations for existing games and/or introducing new games to engage users. These features should be interactive and immersive. You can review the current games on the webpage as well.
- Maintain Solid User Experience: Ensure the web app provides a smooth and intuitive user experience, making navigation and interaction effortless for users.
- Design a Download Experience for the Toolkit: Create a user-centric experience around downloading the toolkit, making it easy and enticing for users to obtain and use our resources. Download toolkit here
- Target Audience: Open to anyone within the Global South with UI/UX skills, proficient with Figma.
- Submission Format: Clickable Prototypes and Figma design files. Preferably designed in Figma.
Timelines and Stages
Stage 1: Registration and Application
- Start Date - June 1, 2024.
- Duration and End Date - 4 weeks. Ends July 18, 2024
- Design Reviews - July 19th to July 25th, 2024
- Notice to Qualifying Designers - July 26th, 2024
Stage 2: Presentation and Defence
- Virtual Presentation and Defence of Design Concept - July 31st, 2024
Announcement of Winners: August 2nd, 2024
How to Participate
- Register for the hackathon here.
- Review the following:
- Ayeta.africa website
- Ayeta game
- Ayeta digital rights toolkit (Download the Ayeta toolkit on ayeta.africa).
- Take up the challenge of redesigning the Ayeta website and game and infusing some of the toolkit content in your design (you can also introduce new games in your design).
- Submit your entry by June 28, 2024. You will be required to input your design concept, the ideas you considered as well as why you chose the concept you designed, this will be part of your defence if you proceed to the second stage.
- You will need to submit the prototype (this is compulsory) Figma link as well as the design link.
- The best ten designers will be contacted by the team for a virtual presentation to answer a few questions about the design concept.
